Nabtat Watan
Located in Saudi Arabia, Qassim region, this bus transportation project reimagines mobility as a cultural and spatial experience. Positioned within a growing regional network, the project enhances connectivity while celebrating the area’s rich natural and cultural heritage. The site integrates seamlessly with surrounding green corridors, civic landmarks, and key neighborhoods, reflecting a vision aligned with Saudi Arabia’s broader development goals.
Rooted in the principles of walkability and human-scale design, the project adopts a "15-minute mobility zone" concept ... ensuring access to daily services, shaded waiting areas, and integrated transport facilities within short walking distances. The design promotes a seamless urban rhythm, where transportation nodes serve not just movement, but gathering, identity, and continuity.
A main pedestrian spine runs across the site, intersected by smaller shaded paths and gathering pockets that echo the rhythm of traditional Najdi settlements. Buildings step back and open up to public space, allowing for airflow, shade, and layered experiences. Inspired by the date palm ... a symbol of life in the region ... architectural elements reference its form, materials, and cultural significance.
At the center of the development, a multi-purpose hub houses waiting lounges, exhibition corners, and community functions. Its roof canopy, shaped like unfolding palm fronds, offers shelter and symbolism ... turning a transit space into a cultural encounter. The hub anchors a public plaza designed for events, markets, and social exchange.
Transit structures are designed with a modular system, allowing for future growth. Their warm-toned material palette, perforated shading, and courtyards reflect the desert environment while providing thermal comfort and local character. Together, the components form a network that elevates public transportation into an immersive and identity-driven urban experience.
